Inner Shell and Safety Certification
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is the certification that matters most in children's soft furnishings. Unlike general 'child-safe' marketing claims, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tests every component, including the inner shell, outer fabric, threads, and dyes, against a list of over 100 regulated substances. For parents, it means the materials are independently verified as safe, not just claimed to be. Look also at the inner filling: a structured, compressed inner shell holds its shape and support better than loose-fill designs that compact unevenly over time.
Fabric, Washability, and Outdoor Use
Machine-washable covers are the most practical feature to prioritise for a kids' bean bag. Playroom bean bags take significant punishment including spills, paint, and general daily chaos, so look for covers that remove easily and wash at 30°C or above. Fabric choices across our range include Teddy, Velvet, Boucle, and Corduroy for indoor use, and water-repellent fabrics for outdoor and covered garden spaces. Outdoor bean bags use different construction to indoor models: lower to the ground, softer fill, and weatherproof materials rather than structured inner shells.
Size and Age: Matching Bean Bag to Child
Most kids' bean bags are sized for children aged 3 and above, once the child can sit independently and move freely. A standard reading-corner bean bag at around 70×60cm is proportioned for children aged 3 through early school years: large enough to curl up on, compact enough to sit beside a bookshelf without dominating the room. For toddlers from age 2, softer outdoor designs are also available. Always check the individual product's minimum age recommendation and weight limit before purchasing.
